Hey Crew,
This is Part 2 of a 5 Part video-with-chalk experiment: The Meta Diagram
This Part 2 of 5 Vid Layers up External Professionals you will need as you build your archi-army beyond yourself per project - Consultants!
(Refer Part 1 here for theArchitectural base layer if you like!)
It was filmed as a continuous of the cuff experiment in a single unscripted 30 minute take, but we have diced it up by theme to test a tiny portion (it was a hit – thanks for all the feedback!) and make different components searchable later on the site.
(props to my star archi-grad Brandon for the question, and star archi-student Ben for the Video!)
I call it the Meta Diagram, as all-mentoring, teaching, programming and budgeting within ADAD/Andrews Notes happens around a version of this diagram, that being:
The Life of a Project
Andrews Notes is about you following your dream, kicking off your studio, levelling up your practice, and as an aside, if you are happily working and progressing within a practice – thinking like an owner will make you extremely valuable to your boss.
Everyone wins!
As I am primarily talking to you all here assuming you sit somewhere along the post-masters, mid-career, decision time, or early own-studio continuum; I frame everything around Projects, in Phases.
Why?
We prepare Fees against Phases.
We organise Time against Phases.
We meet Deadlines throughout Phases.
We engage Specialists throughout Phases.
We Add Hats (as opposed to change hats), towards Contract Administering Construction throughout phases. (Phases, time, money within Phases…)
Besides:
You are all super talented designers already - this forum is all about the other trickier stuff!
I was cautious about uploading because this may be to simplified for those of you already killing it in practice, but as the younger contingent was over the moon happy, I will put the rest out.
I’ll do this all in succession, so that our next written post will target a tricker topic for this further along the journey.
But as I say often:
Fortune rewards action takers!
And at the moment the very recent grads are the most vocal, so following vids are for you.
If you want something answered, ask :)
See you soon,
Andrew Donaldson
